The new, high-performance batteries from VARTA are based on AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) technology. A special micro fibreglass mat lies between the lead plates of the battery absorbing all the battery acid. At the same time, the absorption capacity of the glass fibre mats is such that, while the acid is completely absorbed by the mat, the mat's saturation limit is not reached. The sealed system is fitted with a pressure control valve - commonly referred to as VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) - with the purpose of venting gases safely.

This innovative battery technology offers several advantages:
The battery remains completely spill- & leak-proof. In freezing conditions, expanding fluid is unable to cause any damage. Because the plates are packed in micro fibreglass mats, there is virtually no plate movement: vibration or shock does not harm the battery in any way. AGM batteries can therefore be used in any position, even horizontally. And because all the electrolyte is contained through the acid in the mat, there is no need for battery maintenance (eg. topping up the battery with water or checking the electrolyte)!

Thanks to their very advanced design the AGM batteries have an extremely low internal resistance - causing a quicker reaction between acid and plate material. It is precisely in demanding situations, such as charging in extreme cold, that a higher energy demand can result!

The recharging of AGM batteries is simplicity itself: a charger for conventional car batteries is all that is required - special charging units or adapters just aren't necessary!
